Limits on the Use of Court-Ordered Examinations

There are limits on your use of court-ordered examinations. In general:

You cannot cause the judgment debtor to be examined more than once every 120 days (approximately 4 months). (See California Code of Civil Procedure, Section 708.110)
You cannot cause the judgment debtor - or a third person - to travel more than 150 miles from where they live or work to be examined in court. (See California Code of Civil Procedure, Section 708.160)

The court can sometimes make exceptions if you need another debtor’s examination sooner than 120 days, or the person you want examined lives more than 150 miles from the court that made the judgment, but arranging for this can be difficult.
